Tour of Kajjansi Progressive Senior Secondary School

Posted on January 28, 2016 at 1:25 AM

While Change The Truth’s Team 9 was visiting SMK last month, we had the opportunity to take a school tour of Kajjansi Progressive Senior Secondary School. This experience is rewarding for both visitors and students. Visitors get the rare opportunity to have complete access to school grounds, as the school is officially closed for holidays. CTT-sponsored students attending Progressive have the unique opportunity to talk about their school, personal studies, daily schedule, and general life as a Secondary student here in Uganda. Visitors never fail to walk away from this school tour without a greater appreciation for the sponsorship supports provided by CTT. As well, they have a growing respect for Ugandan students’ diligence, determination and hard work, not to mention a better appreciation for the educational opportunities freely provided in America.

During this tour Scovia, one of CTT’s Secondary students, brought along a camera. She does not attend Progressive, but I thought she beautifully captured the essence and beauty of the school. One of the images captures a dormitory which caught fire this past term, as several of the students mentioned in their sponsor letters. It was a blessing that everyone was in a class at the time, but the building and all property inside was a total loss.

Ugandan Life- Photos from SMK Youth Photographers

Posted on January 25, 2016 at 8:20 AM

During the CTT Team 9 Visit, camera were constantly in use. Children captured over 8,000+ photos of their environment, activities, and one another. It was really incredible. There were some images that students took of 'Ugandan Life' that were really compelling. They are good portraits of daily life in our village, which would look similar to other villages across Uganda. Hope you enjoy...

Photo Scavenger Hunt

Posted on January 14, 2016 at 1:15 AM

All of the CTT Team 9 were accomplished, passionate artists either behind a camera or video-camera. They loved to capture the spirit of the moment. Last year, Team 8 introduced a Photo Scavenger Hunt, which was a HUGE success. This year, it seemed perfectly fitting to bring that activity back… and boy, was it FUN for all. The premise is simple… a group has a camera and a list of 12 images they must capture through photographing. Every photo must contain at least 1 group member. And all team members should be within at least 2 photos. The great thing is there were no losers…only a good time and lots of really interesting shots, like:

CTT Team 9 Final Photos

Posted on January 9, 2016 at 3:10 AM

.

As I have already shared, CTT’s visit is the grand finale of the year here at SMK. It is anticipated prior, cherished during, and then anticipated again after for the following year. Change The Truth Team 9 once again blanketed SMK with loving affections, supportive words and advices, compassionate actions, new & worldly experiences outside the protected comforted of SMK’s gates, FUN and laughter, and renewed hopefulness about the future. Simple acts of kindness can never be taken for granted, cause one is never sure which will take root and grow. CTT Team 9 heard several testimonies of those acts of kindness beginning during CTT Team 1 that have taken root over the years and are now blossoming or even flourishing. So they really made every moment at SMK count for something. It was incredible to witness Jackie, Lynne, Rebecca, and Scott freely give their utmost here. They loved completely, and the beauty is that love was given back ten-fold by the children at SMK.

It was a special time for all, a visit that will not be forgotten!

CTT Team 9: Christmas at SMK

Posted on January 5, 2016 at 6:30 AM

Unlike other holidays throughout the year, Christmas Day really strikes an emotional chord here at St. Mary Kevin Children’s Home. Children, who remember a time when their biological family was intact, are often flooded with those happier memories. Those children who are without make up memories that could/should have been in their mind for additional comfort. While having the Change The Truth team visiting during the Christmas holiday can’t completely erase the internal pangs and tears of the day, the fun and merriment they bring to the environment of SMK does help to alleviate them for at least a portion.

CTT Team 9!!

Posted on December 16, 2015 at 7:55 AM

The Change The Truth Team 9 is arriving here at SMK.  It is always the grand finale of the year for this visit!  When children come back from school at end of November, it becomes a countdown to seeing special friends from CTT both returning and new.  The days will be full of activities, fieldtrips, and lots of love.

The first visitor to arrive is Rebecca from New York City.  She could be a native Ugandan for as comfortable as she has been at SMK.  It took only seconds for the children, especially the teenage girls, to make her acquaintance.  She has been busy ever since...
